New Orleans Harp Music
Helen Maxwell
.... has been at home in New Orleans since 1976, when she moved south with her husband, bandleader Jimmy Maxwell. She grew up in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, and began piano lessons at the age of eight. Even as a youngster, Helen felt a passion for beautiful music and always knew she wanted to be a musician. In college, she devoted her playing to both piano and harp and received her graduate degree in the two instruments from Montclair State University in New Jersey.
Helen held the position of Assistant Professor of Music at the University of New Orleans from 1977-1985 before taking off a few years to raise her two children. She then continued to operate a private teaching studio for years and now freelances as a professional musician, providing the best harp New Orleans knows.
She has performed with national artists including Paul Williams and Michel Le Grand and entertained President George H. W. Bush and Britain’s Princess Margaret. She has played in many touring Broadway shows and appeared at numerous Mardi Gras balls and debutante parties...but she considers wedding ceremony music to be her specialty. (Also, check out Helen's new CD featuring wedding songs.) It is her passion for the music that makes Helen such a perfectionist at her craft. Equally comfortable as a solo performer or in a two, three or four-piece ensemble, Helen can accommodate your specific musical requirements. She is a consummate professional, whom you can count on to make the music at your event a glorious pleasure for all in attendance.
Helen can provide the most elegant
